Using EPCLink in Trax

IMPORTANT: This feature is only available for select shops at this time. 

EPCLink allows you to validate parts for accuracy and swap out parts as necessary directly within a Trax order. 

Notes: 

  • EPCLink will be available for the following OEMs: Acura, Ford, GM, Honda, Infiniti, Nissan, Stellantis
  • For non-supported OEMs, the EPCLink icon will display in grey. 

To validate parts in Trax with EPCLink: 

  1. In the Trax order, click the EPC icon in any row.

  2. EPCLink will open in a new window.
    • The section illustration the part belongs to displays, with the part callout highlighted.

      1. The selected part will be listed on the right-hand side of the new window. (View the Understanding the Parts List Table section for details.)
        1. The left-hand column will list all parts on the order. 
      2. If the part has been superseded, the supersession list will appear below the table. 
      3. Click on other callouts in the illustration to check for additional parts. (View the Marking Up Illustrations section for details.)
      4. You can alter the illustration using the options in the top right. (View the Marking Up Illustrations section for details.)
      5. If the part appears in other sections, click the section thumbnail below the illustration to navigate to the other sections.

      6. Use the left side panel to view and switch between the parts currently on the order. Each item will show the part number and a brief description.

      7. To return to the order, click the X in the upper right corner of the window. 
    • EPCLink will launch in a new window, showing a list of related parts and illustrations. The keyword/part number used in the search will display at the top. 

      • A red banner displays across the top if the part is invalid for the provided VIN.

      • A blue banner displays across the top if the part was not found in the catalog.

      1. To swap the part in for the missing/invalid part, click Swap.

        1. Once swapped, a success message will appear. To revert this action, click Undo.
      2. To copy the part number to the computer clipboard, click the copy icon (8297_UseEPCLink10.jpg). This allows you to paste the part number into another application. Note: There is no toast message for copying a part number.

      3. Features and Comments for the part will be provided.

      4. If applicable, an SS icon will appear if supersession information is available. Click the icon to view supersession details in a new window. 
      5. The part's price, MPL or List price, will appear on the right.

      6. Note for GM Shops: If the part is not featured on any illustration, the Section name or option to swap the part will not display.
      7. For more information on a part in the list, click the Section name to open it.

A Closer Look at EPCLink Functionality

  • EPCLink uses Trax's VIN scrubbing to identify parts. As a result, EPCLink will show different information based on the icon displayed to the right of the part number.

    The section illustration for the part number will display. 

    The part number will be highlighted in green in the Parts List Table, labeled Match.

    8297_UseEPCLink19.jpg The part number is valid for the year, make, and model; however, it cannot validate the model series and/or option codes of the vehicle.

    The section illustration for the part number will display. 

    The part number will be highlighted in amber in the Parts List Table, labeled Possible Non-Fit.

    The part number has not been found. 

    In this case, the catalog cannot confirm the part is valid for the year, make, model, and/or option codes of the vehicle.

    EPCLink will display a list of related illustrations, based on the Part Catalog information. Review the available options and click the appropriate illustration to view part information. 

    A red banner will appear across the top of the window, indicating the part number is invalid for the VIN.

    Neither the part nor the part number have been found.

    EPCLink will display a list of related illustrations based on the Estimating Description. Review the available options and click the appropriate illustration to view part information. 

    A blue banner will appear across the top of the window, indicating the part was not found in the catalog.

  • The following details appear for any part whose callout is selected from the illustration.

    • Swap: Click the blue swap icon (8297_UseEPCLink24.jpg) to swap a new part for one on the original order. (This is especially helpful if a part on the original order has been superseded with a newer part.)
    • Info: Provides additional information about the part, including supersession details, if available. 
    • Callout: Provides the associate number for that part within the illustration.
    • Part#: The part number.
    • Description: The part description from the catalog. 
    • Features: Click the icon to view specific details regarding vehicle fitment. It can assist with further determining if a part will fit the desired vehicle prior to purchase. 
    • Comments: Provides context to ensure you choose the correct part. For example, right and left side mirrors may have similar part numbers. A comment may address the difference to ensure the correct mirror is chosen. 
    • OE List: Provides the MPL or List price of the part. 
  • EPCLink illustrations help you easily identify parts needed for the repair being performed. Additionally, use the tools provided to mark up the illustration and send it to your supplier. 

    Working with Illustrations

    The illustration helps you easily identify parts needed for the work being performed. Each part has an associated callout number. 

    1. Within the Section View, the illustration will display with the appropriate callout highlighted.

      1. If more than one part is under the callout, the table will show all parts belonging to that callout.

    2. Use the zoom feature below the illustration (or your mouse scroll wheel) to zoom into the illustration.

    3. Above the illustration, use the following tools to mark up your illustration:

      • Pen: Draw on the illustration. Anything drawn will be included when saving or printing the illustration. Click the icon a second time to stop drawing.

      • Text: Add text to the illustration. Anything added will be included when saving or printing the illustration. Click the icon a second time to stop typing.

      • Erase: Erase any text or drawings you added. 
      • PDF: Save the illustration as a PDF file to your computer. 
      • Print: Print the illustration, including either the selected part or all parts (if none were selected) in the Parts List Table. 


    Sending Illustrations to Your Supplier

    This process follows the same process as attaching images to an order. 

    To send an illustration to your supplier with the order:

    1. Once the illustration is saved as a PDF file using the toolbar in EPCLink, click the plus icon next to the appropriate supplier in the Selected Suppliers section.

    2. Click the image icon to open the File Explorer.

    3. Click to highlight the PDF and click Open

    4. The file will display below the image icons. 
    5. When finished, click the minus sign (8297_UseEPCLink35.jpg) to minimize the section and continue with placing the order.
